Speaker Bio:
William G. Wierda, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor and clinical medical director in the Department of Leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Wierda completed a bachelor of science in biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside, followed by a PhD in microbiology and immunology at Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois. He then received his medical degree, also at The Chicago Medical School. Dr. Wierda then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).He has previously served as a clinical instructor at the UCSD and a staff physician in the San Diego Veterans Healthcare System.
He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in such prestigious journals as Blood, Leukemia, Cellular Immunology, and TheJournal of Immunology. He is also reviewer for both Cancer and Leukemia &Lymphoma.
In addition, Dr. Wierda is currently a consultant for five corporations.
Research Interests:Refractory aggressive (high-grade) T-cell malignancies; and Treatment of both chronic lymphocytic leukemia and prolymphocytic leukemia.
